The recent firestorms that decimated hundreds of homes in Santa Rosa, Santa Barbara and nearby towns is a wake-up call for all of us to be prepared before a disaster hits here. While we may not be at high risk for a major fire we are definitely at risk for a devastating flood. A levee failure on the Sacramento or American rivers will flood our homes as high as 16 feet. Roadways will be impassable by car within 2 hours of the breach or less.
As a result of this sober assessment we, your SPHA Board, are taking steps to help us be better prepared for when disaster arrives here.
We recommend that you sign up for Sacramento-Alert at www.sacramento-alert.org. Doing so will enable you and your loved ones to receive disaster warnings and notifications from the City and County of Sacramento when it happens. Messages will come to you in the forms you select that works best for you: phone calls, emails and / or text messages.
